The Rap Line Protect Pro Dry from Edelrid is the first accessory cord with dynamic safety reserve. The updated version of the well-known Rap Line II is suitable for all weight-oriented as well as safety-conscious alpinists and speleologists! The 6 mm cord with its Polyamide-Polyester-Aramid material and its slim diameter is super-light and helps to save weight on tour. The material is high-strength and holds two standard falls (based on the dynamic twin rope test). It has already been indicated here that the static cord stretches slightly dynamically when loaded, but at the same time, it is static enough to allow abseiling and retightening of material.
The Pro Dry Treatment ensures that water and dirt have little chance of damaging it. The Edelrid Rap Line Protect Pro Dry with its 6 millimetre diameter is not certified as a twin rope and may therefore not be used for dynamic (sport) climbing. Rather, it finds its application as auxiliary rope in technical, alpine climbing.
In the single strand, you can use it to lower people as well as to retrieve material. In the combination with a single rope (on which you have advanced in an alpine multi-rope length) you can, for example, cover long abseiling slopes over the full distance. Especially abseiling, lowering and belaying a descender with the Rap Line requires experience (due to its small diameter alone) and an ideally frictionless lowering mechanism. Here, small, tight tube-style belay device (e.g. an Edelrid Micro Jul) or the half-mast safety device with the usual Prusik Knot are suitable.
In addition, the Rap Line can be used with all common climbing clamps and rope pulleys and thus turns out to be a real enrichment for alpinists who do challenging big walls or long alpine multi-rope lengths with many rappelling points. Since the Rap Line is relatively sensitive to edges and rock contact, its use is particularly suitable for overhanging rock tours. Then, it shows its true identity as the first cord with a dynamic safety reserve**! The perfect companion for professionals and specialists on crag!
